Mum - Daphne May

She was my idol, my guiding light. I had her on a pedestal. She was a lady – wise and kind and loving and caring – and she lived that every day.

Her strong faith in God – she lived that every day too. She loved this Church and parish dearly. She enjoyed her Monday afternoon rosary and chat group immensely.

She helped us endlessly with our children; she would catch a train to me, help with chores; then we would have a cup of tea with the home-made biscuits or slice she would carry down – then fold the washing and catch a train home.

She was always engaged and interested in all those around her- family and friends and beautiful staff at Villa – until the end.

We will miss her wisdom – there will be endless moments where we will think, ‘I must tell Mum’ or ask her advice – because she’d find it funny or would usually have a comment to make. Now, I’ll have to just ask myself, ‘What would Daph do?’

When she lost Dad, part of her heart was missing. Over the past 18 months, it has been heartbreaking to see the pain on her face, yet she carried herself with courage, grace and dignity. She was truly an inspiration.

And with that, her pedestal has been raised even higher. Her wit, pearls of wisdom, her strength and her love, we have been so very blessed.

Mum and Dad’s love for each other was an inspiration –always displaying their love and affection for each other. And now, they’re back together, forever holding hands.

Rest peacefully Mum. We’ll miss you forever.
